Green Bean Lobio step-by-step recipe |
"This is my absolutely favorite green bean recipe! This dish belongs to amazing Georgian cuisine, and it's heavenly delicious! Believe me this will make you craving more and more!"

Ingredients Serves 4

  • 2 onions
  • 1 lb (450 g) green beans
  • 2 bell peppers
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • small bunch cilantro
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1.5 tsp khmeli-suneli spice mix


  1. Peel and cut 2 medium onions into cubes.

  2. Prepare the green beans, trim both ends with a knife and cut them into 2-inch pieces.

  3. Peel and slice one or two bell peppers into small strips. Peel and mince two cloves of garlic. Chop a bunch of cilantro.

  4. Ground 1 cup of walnuts in a blender or food processor.

  5. Dice 2 medium tomatoes.

  6. Heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a frying pan, stir fry the onion over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, until soft.

  7. Add the green beans and the bell peppers, cook covered for 10 minutes, stiring from time to time.

  8. Add the tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper and cook for 3 minutes under the lid. Next, add the walnuts, cilanto, garlic and khmeli-suneli spice mix.

    Khemi-Suneli is a complex spice, it's made of more than 10 herbs grown in the region of Georgia. So, It's preferably to buy it. But if it's not available, make a simplified mix, combining equal amounts of dried basil, dill, coriander and marjoram.

  9. Mix well and remove from heat.
